At the SwissTech Convention Center, we had the honor of hosting The Annual Meeting EUCLID in 2015 and 2021. These events reflect our commitment, along with EPFL, to science and international collaborations. Today, we are thrilled to share an exceptional discovery made possible by the Euclid Space Telescope: a rare Einstein ring observed in the galaxy NGC 6505!

A Fascinating Discovery with Euclid

Launched in July 2023, the Euclid Space Telescope has embarked on an ambitious mission: to map over one-third of the sky in six years and collect data on billions of galaxies. Recently, it captured a remarkable image of an Einstein ring, a phenomenon predicted by Albert Einstein’s general theory of relativity, demonstrating its ability to unveil previously unseen cosmic structures.

In a groundbreaking achievement, the European Space Agency (ESA) also released the first-ever wide-field image of the Universe in 208 gigapixels, offering unprecedented precision. This revolutionary image will contribute to mapping dark matter, unraveling the mysteries of dark energy, and serving as a valuable foundation for numerous astrophysical studies. This milestone marks a turning point in cosmic exploration, paving the way for discoveries that will reshape our understanding of the Universe.

The SwissTech Convention Center: A Hub for Science

Hosting these meetings in 2015 and 2021 at the SwissTech Convention Center was a great honor for us. Our venue is a premier location for research and innovation, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure tailored to major scientific conferences. We are delighted to see that the discussions held within our walls have led to such fascinating discoveries.
